IMPERIAL VENGEANCE: '6th Airborne Division (Redux)' Video Released
September 29, 2009"6th Airborne Division (Redux)", the new video from British extreme metallers IMPERIAL VENGEANCE, can be viewed below. The clip was shot on HD at London's 400 Company alongside the footage to "Unto That End" over a single-day filming period. In total contrast to the other video in production, this was to be a totally stripped down affair without CGI wizardry — just the band, a white room and the music. The "narrative," as such, utilizes some archive footage of the RAF to set the scene — but it's kept to a minimum to showcase the live members (Elle Torry on guitar, James Last on drums, James Murray on guitar) and allow the performances to stand forward alongside the core members (C. Edward-Alexander on vocals, and David Bryan on bass). The largely Ruritarian design costumes are much more an ambiguous departure from the period detail of the band's earlier World War I stylistics; with the band having left the horrors of the trenches and painting a much broader conceptual canvas hopefully giving the viewer a hint of what IMPERIAL VENGEANCE as an active live unit is all about
IMPERIAL VENGEANCE was formed in 2007 as a collaborative between C. Edward-Alexander and David Bryan in an attempt to explore and expand already established ideas and forms, using conceptual material firmly rooted in the glory days of the British Empire, and presenting a wide range of subjects influenced by its colorful social and military histories, theatre, literature and mythologies. March 2008 saw the release of the duo's first endeavor, "Death: August & Royal", which comprised one regular audio CD and a second multi-media DVD-ROM and featured the drumming talents of William Drury. Such was the enthusiastic response to the release, the English gentlemen decided to take the band a step further and alongside the new recruit to the ranks; guitarists Elle Torry (WORMS OF SABNOCK, EVERLASTING DESCENT) and James Murray (SHOTGUN AFFAIR) were invited to complete the live lineup.
In June 2008, the band inked a deal with U.K. label Candlelight Records and spent the rest of the year writing and then recording their debut album, "At The Going Down Of The Sun".
Largely written by gas-light, fuelled by absinthe and cigar smoke. the songs on "At The Going Down Of The Sun" represent an uncomfortable meander through British history principally between the dates 1873 and 1943; though on occasion, cracks in time do open doorways to other vistas.
The release comprises of 10 blistering tracks of British metal, mixed and mastered by Brett Caldas-Lima and unleashed March 2009.
